OLYMPIC RUN RINGS AROUND FOXES
Fernhill 2 vs Wollongong Olympic 3
Both teams went into the final round of the League looking for a win to make the final five playoffs. Olympic showed their intentions early with superior intensity and were rewarded with a shot on goal in the first few minutes. Fernhill struggled to get into the game and were out-enthused by Wollongong whose ball movement and possession had the Foxes scrambling.
To their credit the boys hung on and tried to make the most of their opportunities but just couldn’t match Olympic’s intensity. With their glut of possession and field position it wasn’t long before Wollongong hit the lead with a well taken shot and went to the break up 1 - 0.
The boys came out for the second half with Simon Habak coming on in midfield and they looked to take the game to Olympic. Unfortunately they conceded two more goals due to lazy defence and poor decisions. The Foxes weren’t going to give up their season in this manner and with their never give up attitude, worked their way back into the game.
With 15 minutes to go Joe Moerman stretched to get on the end of a cross and scored a well deserved goal. Five minutes later Godfrey Franko finished brilliantly to get the score back to 3 – 2. With Olympic hitting the panic button Fernhill launched attack after attack but couldn’t find a way past the Olympic defence.
Unfortunately for the young Foxes the loss meant the end of their League run and despite finishing a credible 6th placed, missed out on the playoffs by a solitary point.
Man of the Match with another whole-hearted performance was Joe Moerman.
